Mindful Trader Commentary For September 24, 2021

Hey Guys,

The market came down overnight, but it's pushing back upward as of the time I'm writing this. There is still volatility in the air.

I picked up a new stock position in BAX. I got it right off the watch list, which is where most of my trades come from. This morning I set up a buy limit order for $80.80 (the "Potential Entry Price" listed on the watch list), and the order filled right when the opening bell rang. I got filled at $80.61. I also bought the options for BAX in my extra options account.

I closed my stock position for COUP this morning since it reached its time limit. That tallied another profit on the board.

I also closed all those expiring options positions late in the day yesterday. In total, I closed five winning trades and one losing trade. That said, I have two more losing trades that will likely expire worthless today (FB and DKNG). I tried closing both of those yesterday, but their valuations are so low that I couldn't sell them even for just a penny. I still have my sell orders in, but those two positions will most likely expire worthless at the end of the day today.

I want to mention that when I close out my expiring options positions at the end of trading on Thursdays, I don't wait until the very last minute. The reason is that I am more concerned about making sure the position gets closed than I am about waiting for the final minute of the day. So I might close the positions at any point in the last hour of the trading day. I try not to use much discretion, but rather to just go in one by one and kind of robotically close them out. The more discretion involved, the more agonizing it can be when things don't go your way.

If you have any questions or feedback, I'd love to hear from you.
