In the pullback strategy that I use for stocks (described here), I use two key indicators: Keltner Channels and ATR.
You may not need to understand them at a core level in order to learn to do the pullback strategy on your own, but you need to at least learn how to set them up in your platform and learn how to use the indicators to identify trades that meet the pullback setup.
